About

Scoring for storytellers

Charmaine Lim

Charmaine Lim is a film composer and violinist based between Los Angeles and Singapore, creating emotionally driven scores that blend cinematic orchestral writing with modern sound design. Her music is crafted to deepen narrative, amplify emotion, and give each story a distinctive musical identity.

A Summa Cum Laude graduate of Berklee College of Music with a Bachelor's degree in Film Scoring, Charmaine trained as both a composer and violinist, bringing a strong understanding of orchestration, performance, and storytelling to every project. She has composed original music for short films, animation, and visual media, collaborating closely with creatives to shape compelling emotional journeys through music.

Charmaine has worked with the music team at DreamWorks Animation in California, gaining firsthand experience within Hollywood's animation scoring pipeline and collaborating alongside industry professionals on large-scale productions. Her compositional voice combines lush orchestral textures with subtle sound design, creating scores that are both emotionally resonant and cinematically contemporary.

As a recipient of the Berklee Asian Scholarship, Charmaine studied composition with GRAMMY and EMMY Award-winning film composer Claudio Ragazzi, and violin with Julianne Lee of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Her performance experience includes appearances with the Berklee Contemporary Symphony Orchestra, Audire Soundtrack Choir Orchestra, and the Berklee/BOCO Recording Orchestra, at venues including Boston Symphony Hall, Jordan Hall, MIT Kresge Auditorium, and the Berklee Performance Center.

In addition to composing, Charmaine is an experienced session violinist, having recorded for numerous film scores and commercially released music. Her background as both composer and performer enables her to write idiomatically for strings while communicating seamlessly with musicians throughout the recording process.
